will the Leafs make the playoffs?

If the NHL playoffs were to begin today the Toronto Maple Leafs would not make the playoffs. With only three games remaining in thier season the Leafs are only one point behind Montreal in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the eastern confrence. With six teams that have not clinched a playoff spot and seperated by only 7 points, gives the leafs who are on a tear of late a chance at the post-season. It would be a major accomplishment for the Leafs to even make the playoffs due to their season full of conflict and injury. If Toronto were to run the table and win there last three games they will have to hope that Montreal loses one of there remaining 3 games.

I'm interested in your opinion on this issue, your post had a very neutral tone. Are you a Leafs fan?

Here is my take on the Leaf's season. I think the key influence on their season was injuries. Tucker made a huge difference in terms of spirit - he isn't the best hockey player on the team, but he gets everyone riled up and adds a lot of energy. Wellwood was also sorely missed. Kaberle's injury was devastating - as he is the best player on the team. Also, Sundin has had a really bad stretch of luck at the end of the season, with only one goal in ... 77 shots on net?

Not that you asked for my opinion, but the other issue is Ferguson. He didn't bring in anyone for the trade deadline, and has done nothing to really shake the team up. Wouldn't it have been great to have Ryan Smith or even Gary Roberts for the trade deadline? Also, Raycroft has his glory moments, but he is not dependable. They need a SOLID goalie, who their team trusts. Too many stupid penalties have been taken for what I think is a lack of trust for the goal tender.

Um... I think I'll stop now. Go Leafs Go!
